In-Home Pet Passport Term & Conditions

Keys: Bark + Boarding requires two sets of keys. We give one set to the primary sitter to use during the scheduled visits, and keep the second set in the office. This way, in case of a mishap, we will still be able to care for your pet in a timely manner. After services are completed, we will keep both sets of keys on file.

If you provide only one set of keys, we will make a copy of all keys in that set, assessing a $10 fee per key.

If you choose not to keep keys on file at Bark + Boarding, we will assess a $15 fee for key return after your service is completed or client is welcome to retrieve keys from the Bark + Boarding office. If future service is requested, the client(s) is responsible for providing Bark + Boarding with necessary keys 48 hours prior to the first visit requested.

Apartments/Condominiums: If apartment key(s) (2 sets) AND one building entry FOB/key is not provided, you will be charged for a 45-minute visit. This allows our sitters/walkers the time to retrieve the key from the appropriate building management without it detracting from your pet’s visit(s).

Payment: All In-Home Pet Sitting payments are due within 5 business days of the last scheduled visit. Please mail checks made out to Bark + Boarding to 5818-C Seminary Rd Falls Church, VA 22041; do not leave them in your home for the pet-sitter, who then must mail them to the Bark + Boarding office. For credit card payments, please give us a call at 703-931-5057 or an online invoice can be sent to you. For recurring mid-day dog walking: clients must enroll in our Autopay program in which a credit card will be kept on file and run on the first of the month for that month’s services. If payment is not received by the 15th of the month, a 5% late fee ($10 minimum) will be assessed if your monthly dog-walking bill.

--Bark + Boarding agrees to provide services as outlined in the Pet Passport and your invoices. The client waives and relinquishes any and all claims against Bark + Boarding and its employees or independent contractors, unless Bark + Boarding is negligent and does not perform as agreed herein.

--The client gives Bark + Boarding permission to seek medical attention for the pet(s) listed in this contract if the pet(s) become sick or injured while under the care of Bark + Boarding

--Additional services requested by the client will be paid for at the established rates within 5 business days of the last completed visit. Any additional necessary costs incurred by Bark + Boarding such as food, supplies, or vet fees shall be paid by the client. If an emergency veterinarian trip is required, client(s) is responsible for all veterinarian fees and a $30/hour fee charged by Bark + Boarding for an employee of the company to transport and accompany the pet.

--Client agrees to provide the necessary supplies for the pet(s) care for the duration of the service. If it is necessary for Bark + Boarding to obtain additional supplies, client is responsible for the cost of the supplies and a $20/hour shopping fee.

--Client has read and agrees to the policies and procedures of Bark + Boarding.

--Bark + Boarding and its employees or independent contractors shall not be held responsible for the loss, injury or death of any pet(s) that the client has let outside or has instructed the sitter to allow outside.

--The client waives and relinquishes any and all claims against Bark + Boarding and its employees or independent contractors if other person(s) have access to the home of the client or the pets under the care of Bark + Boarding for any period of time covered by this contract.

--The client agrees to provide Bark + Boarding with working keys for all locks on the agreed upon entrance door. In the event that Bark + Boarding cannot enter the home with the existing keys, a lock breaks, or additional keys are needed for entrance and a locksmith is needed, client agrees to pay for locksmith services.

--Bark + Boarding reserves the right to refuse service if a pet has a history of biting or other aggressive behavior, if a client requests services or treatment of the pet that the company does not agree with, or if any employee is uncomfortable with any aspect of the pet or home. The client is liable for any medical care expenses and damages incurred by Bark + Boarding that results from a bite from a client’s pet.

--The client ensures that all licenses and vaccinations required by the State of Virginia/District of Columbia and/or the county and city of residence are current and up-to-date.

--The client authorizes this contract to be valid approval for future services so as to permit Bark + Boarding to accept telephone reservations and enter the client’s premises without additional signed contracts or written authorizations.

--It is the client’s sole responsibility to pet-proof any areas of the home and/or property to which the pet(s) have access. This includes thoroughly inspecting fences, gates, crates, latches, doors and other devices meant to keep the pet(s) inside of or away from any areas pets may have access to. Bark + Boarding does not assume and has no liability for any injuries the pet may sustain while in its own home/property.

A fee of $25 will be assessed for all returned checks.

In-Home Policies and Procedures

Office Hours

Office hours are Monday to Friday 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 7:30 PM and Sundays from 10 AM to 5:00 PM. Clients may leave email and voicemail 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We will return your call or email during the next business day.

Reservations

We make every effort to honor client requests for service. However, in order to adequately inform our staff of schedule changes, please use the following guidelines:

A “last minute” surcharge of $10 will be added if In-Home pet sitting visits are requested within 24 hours of the first scheduled visit.  *This includes changing the time of your regular mid-day visit and/or adding an extra afternoon or evening visit

Cancellation Policies

Mid-day dog walking clients: should call or email the office by 9 AM on the day of the visit to be cancelled to avoid being charged. These clients will be charged for all visits not cancelled according to this guideline.

Weekend and Holiday pet-sitting clients: should call or email the office beforeby 9 AM on the day of the visit to be cancelled to avoid being charged. These clients will be charged for all visits not cancelled according to this guideline.

Inclement Weather

Rain: All scheduled visits will be made in the event of rain; however, dog walks will be shortened depending on the severity of the rain. If a walk must be shortened, the walker will play with the pet indoors for the remainder of the visit.

Snow: In the event of snow, mid-day dog walks will be cancelled when the federal government is closed, or in case of dangerous conditions (to be determined at the office’s discretion). Should such an unlikely event occur, the office will inform clients via email and/or voicemail immediately. If the federal government is open and you choose to stay home, please follow our cancellation policy detailed above. When in doubt, an email will be sent to all clients confirming or cancelling visits for the day.

Assignment of Dog Walkers/Pet Sitters

Every effort will be made to assign each client a regular dog walker and/or pet sitter. However, in the event of an emergency, illness, vacation, or during busy holiday times, please be aware that a fully trained and insured substitute may be assigned to your pet(s). We will try to schedule a consultation ($20) between you and your substitute, if requested, but this may not be possible in emergency and busy holiday situations. Please rest assured that your pet(s) and your home will always be cared for responsibly by the fully trained and insured staff of Bark + Boarding.

Holidays

Please note that our mid-day dog walking services will not be available on federal holidays that Bark + Boarding observes (see our list of observed holidays on our website), unless specific arrangements are made by the client (a $15 holiday surcharge will be added). The government observes holidays when a holiday falls on a Saturday (observed on Friday) or Sunday (observed on Monday). Please note that this charge is applied per day, not per visit.

In-Home Registration

Every new client must meet a manager/sitter for a pre-visit registration, during which the manager/sitter sees the layout of the clients’ home and meets the client and pet. At this time, the manager/sitter will review the service contract, and the client will provide two sets of working house keys.

Keys

Clients with monthly contracts or clients who plan on engaging the services of Bark + Boarding again have the option of leaving their keys on file with our office. Keys left in our possession are maintained in a locked, fireproof safe, and are kept separate from paperwork with client identification. If a client chooses not to leave keys with the office, a key drop-off and pick-up charge will be assessed each time our services are engaged.

Rates

Client agrees to pay the established rates for services (please see our rates on our website). We do not provide abbreviated service for cheaper rates.

Pet Safety

All pets must be current on their rabies vaccinations. We strongly urge that all pets wear identification tags. Please provide safe and adequate leashes (please no extend-a-leashes) and collars (martingales preferably) for your pets as necessary.

Services

Mid-day Dog Walking: A mid-day dog walk consists of a 25- to 30-minute visit between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM, Mondays through Fridays (except observed holidays). A trained and insured animal-loving staff member will greet your dog, walk him or her in the area you specify, clean up after your pet, dispose of waste, and feed and/or water your dog at your request. Staff members are trained to spend as much time as possible outside walking the dog during these visits.

Pet-Sitting Visits: A pet-sitting visit consists of a 25- to 30-minute visit while clients are out of town (weekends, mornings, mid-day, evenings, and late night). A staff member will come to your home and feed, water, brush, exercise, and cuddle pets of all types, as well as check your mail, confirm that your home is free from damage, and water plants.

Overnight Visits: Overnight visits consist of a staff member staying overnight in your home to provide company and security for your pet. These visits include an evening and morning walk or exercise period for your pets as well as an evening and morning feeding.
